This is called Margaret Apple Lamp. In my apartment, I don’t have cable, consistent wifi, or any way to watch DVDs, so this is how Carbon and I decided the pass the time. Wine glass filters, pink tinsel from the thrift store, and a “manual slideshow” using pictures that we found on the streets of San Francisco. The song is Snakes, by Karen O from theĀ KO at Home demo that leaked a while back.
As I mentioned in an earlier post, I recently finished a 30 second PSA for the San Francisco based nonprofit, Writerscorps. They organize awesome events and offer free programs to the community, such as writing workshops, poetry readings, and after school programs. I’ve worked with them on several video projects, including this stop motion promo for their Poetry Projection Project film festival.
The video in this post was created to be played during a Giants game and, much to my delight, it aired on the big screen at Giants Stadium two weeks ago. I can hardly wait to start production on the book trailer for Writerscorps in the fall. They’ve given me complete creative freedom to make a video to promote their book City of Stairways, a poet’s guide to San Francisco. It acts as a travel guide to the SF, including poems that were written by high school students in the various locations mapped out in the book.
Oh, the creative possibilities!
Posting this is bittersweet. Last month, an event called Aerosol Addicts took place at the Cesar Chavez co-op in Santa Cruz. As you can see, it was an awesome day of artistic expression. Unfortunately, there was a misunderstanding with the landlord. He was under the impression that only the house would be painted, not the surrounding fences. As a result, he made the coop paint over everything. Tears were shed and shit was talked. I’m glad that I was there to record this event in a positive light, hopefully it isn’t the last Aerosol Addicts event ever.
Having this Canon has been such an inspiration. Last night I used it to film an event for the first time. It was an 18th birthday party for a beautiful girl named Angelica. Shout out to Sade for landing me that gig :) Tonight I’m taking my camera out to test shoot for the graffiti documentary that has been in the works. I’ll be following around a certain lady painter, let’s hope the Canon can handle any low light circumstances that I may encounter..
This video was made with the first footage that I shot on the 5D. Trevor let me film him as he practiced pop-up yoga in my messy apartment.

The other day at work we did a photoshoot of the youth in the Factory’s summer video program. They were responsible for setting up the lights for each person.
These guys were so friendly they deserve their own post. Kayla and I were in Union Square when they asked us to do an interview about denim for Levis. So, somewhere in the world there is footage of me awkwardly wearing that puffy blue vest.
Afterwards, homie let me play with his Canon and I tried my best not to drool all over it. From there they invited us to a block party in Soho. And then they let me take their photograph :)
Most ‘buckle up’ public service announcements make me want to drive recklessly without a seat belt so that I never have to endure another corny PSA being replayed. That said, if you absolutely have to make a PSA, here’s how to go out like an OG.
I fell in love with the song first, but as I was looking through the related videos I fell in love with this video. God, I can’t wait for the day when I get paid to edit footage of Kate Moss being hot on a beach to bombass copyrighted music.
